Carving out a Family Home in Wall Township
A custom home has so much more than square footage. It’s built around your life, with every detail designed for your family and future. It starts long before construction begins, with decisions that shape not just the house itself, but how it feels and functions over time. In Wall, NJ, one family is bringing their vision to life with a home that balances space, comfort, and connection. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how the exciting process is unfolding.
Finding the Right Location
With decades of experience and strong real estate relationships, CMM helps its clients navigate the sourcing, zoning, and purchasing process to secure the ideal lot—whether vacant or one with an existing home. Our real estate partner, Shire Realty, helped this couple acquire a little-known lot bordering a 500-acre undeveloped land preserve, offering expansive space and privacy rarely found in most Jersey Shore towns. Originally part of a subdivision from the 1980s, the land remained untouched for decades before finally becoming available—an incredible opportunity to build something special.
Mindfully Making Way
Because the property had never been developed, we had to clear a patch of approximately 70 trees before construction could begin. Rather than simply removing them, we took a more intentional approach by harvesting the wood for lumber instead of letting it go to waste. We coordinated every step of sustainable tree removal, from cutting and rough milling to transport.
Designing for Family
Multi-generational living has become a meaningful choice for many families, blending independence with togetherness under one roof. In this case, the couple is thoughtfully designing an in-law suite for a beloved parent who’s been enthusiastically involved since day one of the project, including attending the groundbreaking celebration.
Set on the side of the house, the suite will offer privacy while staying connected to the heart of the home. It’s a beautiful example of how custom building allows every generation to feel at home with the ones they love.
Arranging Every Detail
With longtime CMM collaborator Mike Melillo of Melillo Architecture leading the design phase, the home has all sorts of standout architectural elements that make the most of the property, including:
· A two-story family room and fireplace, creating an open and inviting space.
· An elevated overhead passage, adding a unique architectural touch.
· Brass inlay detailing on the flooring, giving the home a refined, custom feel.
· An open sightline from the front entrance through to the backyard, maximizing natural light and views.
· A spacious backyard with a covered porch, pool, and hot tub.
The home’s design naturally follows the land’s contours, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Tracking Toward Move-in
As of March 2025, the roof is up and the window frames are in, marking the transition from framework to fruition. Over the next several months, the vision will continue to take final shape toward an official move-in date.
